In Makkah and Madinah, winter spans from December to February, which coincides with the peak pilgrimage season as many pilgrims prefer the cooler months to perform their Umrah. The temperature in these cities is generally mild during the day, with an average ranging from 18 to 30 degrees Celsius with no snow. It can be chillier at night as the temperature drops. For valuable tips on how to prepare for your winter Umrah journey, keep reading!

1. Stay Cozy With the Right Clothing

Don’t forget to bring your sweaters, jackets, and shawls to keep yourself snug! You may also bring thicker socks, insulated pants, and shirts in addition to your regular clothes. If wearing outerwear isn’t sufficient to keep you warm, consider wearing thermal innerwear for extra comfort against the chilly temperatures.

However, do keep in mind that men are not allowed to wear any outwears or innerwear during Ihram, as it is prohibited to wear any sewn clothing during this state.

2. Opt for a Thicker Ihram Fabric

Since men are only allowed to wear a piece of fabric during the state of Ihram, it’s crucial to choose a thicker material for Ihram to help you feel warmer throughout your pilgrimage.

3. Don’t Forget the Heat Packs

These small and portable hand warmers are a game changer! It can be easily tucked into your pocket and provide you with instant warmth whenever and wherever needed.

4. Hydrate and Protect Your Skin

Winter’s dry climate can leave your skin feeling dry, flaky, and itchy. To combat this, you may apply nourishing body moisturiser and lip balm and drink plenty of water to keep your skin well-hydrated and moisturised.

5. Beware of the Cold

It’s more common to catch colds and flu in chilly weather, so be sure to layer up properly, drink lots of warm water, and bring necessary medications, just in case!

6. An Umbrella Might Come in Handy

Rainfall in Makkah and Madinah is rare due to their desert climate. However, if it does rain, it typically occurs during the cooler months and ranges from light drizzles to heavy downpours. Having a portable umbrella with you can help you continue your journey conveniently in case of rain.

We hope that these tips will benefit you and be of great help for your preparation! May your winter Umrah journey be filled with warmth (despite being cold), blessings, and beautiful moments.
